DIY CAT SCRATCHER MADE FROM AN OLD FRAME
I have seen this frame-to-cat scratcher idea done multiple times on Pinterest and Instagram, so the idea is definitely not mine, but whoever originally thought of this is AMAZING!
I’ll give you the spoiler alert, my cats are enjoying this SO MUCH!
For me, this project was simple because I had everything on hand.
I have carpet scraps from our recent stairwell makeover and also have a handful of frames because I’m one of those ladies who swoops on solid wood frames while thrifting.
If you want to make this for your kitty and don’t have the supplies on hand, you can use a rug or hit up your local Lowes, Menards, or Home Depot.
Sometimes, they have carpet scraps that will cost you under $5.00.

HOW TO REPURPOSE A FRAME INTO A CAT SCRATCHER
SUPPLIES
- CARPET TO FIT FRAME
- FRAME
- GLUE & BRUSH TO APPLY GLUE- I used Mod Podge
- BACKING BOARD FOR FRAME – I used the board that came with the frame.
- WIRE FOR HANGING
- PAINT
Step One: Say goodbye to the old artwork and discard the glass.
Step Five: Once the carpet dries on the backing board, place it into the frame and secure it.
I was able to secure my carpeted backing board back in place with the original staples from the frame.
Step Six: Apply wire for hanging and hang on the wall for kitty to enjoy!
I wasn’t sure if the cats would like this frame to cat-scratcher idea, but they sure do, and since I have so much space in their playroom, I will be adding more to their walls.
Cat scratchers are an absolute must!
If you don’t have time to make one of these frame scratcher DIYs, I recommend heading over to Amazon—it’s my favorite spot to shop for cat supplies.
Your cat will definitely appreciate it!
Besides wall frame scratchers shared above, we also use scratch board pads.
XOXO
