I’ve seen this idea floating around Pinterest and Instagram, turning old picture frames into cat scratchers, and let me tell you, whoever came up with it deserves a medal.
It’s simple, clever, and surprisingly cute.
I had everything I needed already on hand: carpet scraps from our stairwell makeover, and a small stash of thrifted solid wood frames (because yes, I’m one of those people who always snags a good frame while thrifting).
You really don’t need much to make these.
If you don’t have carpet scraps, a small remnant from Home Depot, Menards, or Lowe’s usually costs under $5.
Rugs or woven mats could also work; just look for something durable enough for your kitty’s claws.
I love this DIY because it’s easy to match your decor.
You can paint the frame any color you want, pick a fun texture or color for the carpet insert, and even add little embellishments if you’re feeling extra crafty.
I painted the outer wood of mine to match the cat playroom, and now it fits right in with the rest of the space.
And the best part?
The cats actually use them!
