DIY COLORFUL ICE GARLAND AND A PONY SIZED SNOW FORT

DIY Colorful Ice Garland & A Pony-Sized Snow Fort: Winter Fun on the Farm

We decided to take winter fun to the next level by building a pony-sized snow fort and adding some sparkle with colorful ice garlands

Trust me, it’s as magical as it sounds.

The ice garland is super easy to make, and when the sun hits it, it practically sparkles in the snow.

In this post, I’ll Walk you through the steps for creating your own colorful ice garland and share some adorable pony photos from our snow fort building adventure.
Plus, I’ll include a link to my DIY Snow Paint Recipe at the end!

How to Make DIY Colorful Ice Garland: A Simple & Fun Winter Craft

I first got the idea for this ice garland after seeing it on Instagram reels, and I just had to try it myself.

Supplies:

  • Water
  • String or rope (I used black yarn)

Steps to Make the Ice Garland:

Prep Your Muffin Pans: Lay your string or yarn along each muffin hole. This is what will hold your garland together once it’s frozen.

Side Note: LOL, if you can even notice, forgive my muffin pans, I use them for crafting, not cooking.

Add Water & Color: Fill each muffin hole with water and add a few drops of food coloring to each one.

Freeze: Pop your muffin pans into the freezer (or outside if it’s cold enough!). Let the water freeze solid.

Release the Ice: Once frozen, run the bottom of the muffin pan under warm water for just a few seconds to loosen the ice. Be careful not to let it melt too much, or the string may break loose.

And voilà!

You now have a beautiful ice garland that sparkles in the winter sun!

Snow Fort Fun: A Pony Photoshoot in the Snow

Now, I can’t take all the credit for the pony sized snow fort.

My husband did most of the digging (thanks, Paul!), but we were both determined to make it just the right size for our ponies.

I was a little worried that the ponies would refuse to check it out but to my surprise, all three girls were intrigued.

The fort was just the right size for them. I climbed inside first and used a few treats to coax them in (because let’s be real, treats are the best pony motivator).

Mixie, with her fluffy mane, made the perfect cave-pony.

Cedar had been watching us dig out the fort from the barn, so she was the first to check it out. She’s a curious one!

Shiloh, our tallest pony, had to duck a bit to fit in, but she was delighted to join in on the fun and grab some treats!

I have to say, this snow fort turned out way better than I imagined—especially for a couple of forty-something-year-olds and their ponies. I’m so proud of our little winter creation!

As I wrap up this post, I just want to remind everyone to take full advantage of the magic that comes with winter.

Whether you're making DIY ice garland, building snow forts, or enjoying some pony playtime, winter offers a special kind of fun.
